"Don't be afraid, David said to him [Mephiboseth] for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan.   I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table."
   II Samuel 9:7

Though crippled due to an accident and completely dependent on others for his care, young Mephiboseth was the sole survivor of King Saul's family.   He expected to be executed as were the others in his family.   But King David had made a promise to his best friend Jonathan. (See I Samuel 20:12-17)

David promised to treat his family with covenantal love and unfailing kindness (Hebrew word - hesed).  When he learned of this survivor, David extended grace on the basis of an oath made long ago.  He included Jonathan's son to be a part of the royal household!

Today on the basis of God's love and kindness we are offered an opportunity to be a part of God's family.   We can experience inclusion rather than rejection.   We can be seated at the King's table.  Though we are "crippled" and undeserving, we can find favor by putting our trust in Jesus!

You are not an outcast, but an overcomer!  God has prepared a place for you at His table.  See Psalm 23:5. You are not alone, in Jesus, you are included!
